Police in the Eastern Division have reported two alleged drowning incidents over the past 24 hours. The first case involved a 16-year-old student from Wailevu Village who went missing while swimming in the Wainibuka River on the previous afternoon. Search efforts were promptly initiated, but unfortunately, they did not yield any results. Authorities confirmed that the search will resume today.
In a separate incident, the body of a 25-year-old man from Nasirotu Village was discovered in the Waidina River yesterday afternoon. The police in Vunidawa are currently gathering more information to understand the circumstances leading to the man’s death. A post-mortem examination is planned to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Investigations are ongoing for both incidents as authorities seek to bring clarity to these tragic events. The community is urged to remain vigilant and practice safety while engaging in water activities, particularly as the region continues its efforts to ensure the well-being of its residents during swim season.
