Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down as the president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation yesterday, revealing that he had submitted his decision during the party’s executive council meeting last week.
At 70 years old, Ratu Vuniyani cited two main reasons for his resignation. “Firstly, I have accomplished what I set out to do when forming the party,” he mentioned, noting that a significant goal was to defeat the FijiFirst party, which he considers a major success of his leadership.
Additionally, he expressed a desire to prioritize his health and personal well-being. “I do not wish to manage the pressures of both the presidency and my chief role in Nadi. I believe it is the right time to hand over the responsibilities to someone else,” he stated. He also addressed rumors about disagreements concerning party procedures, calling them misinformation.
Ratu Vuniyani expressed gratitude to the party, its members, and supporters. Currently, Vice-President Ratu Josefa Dimuri is serving as the acting president.
