Tropical Cyclone Rae is on track to intensify into a severe tropical cyclone later today, as reported by the Fiji Meteorological Service. Currently located just east of Vanua Levu, Rae is moving towards the Lau Group at a speed of approximately 15 km/h.
Due to the impending severe weather, a hurricane warning is in effect for the Moala Group, while a storm warning has been issued for the entirety of the Lau Group, Nairai, and Gau. Additionally, strong wind warnings remain in effect for eastern parts of Vanua Levu, Cikobia, Naqele Levu, Taveuni, Koro, Ovalau, and Ono-i-Lau. A heavy rain warning encompasses the entire Fiji Group, raising concerns about potential flooding in low-lying areas.

The cyclone’s development follows its upgrade from Tropical Depression status, heightening the urgency for residents to remain vigilant and prepared. Local leaders have been advocating for community solidarity and preparedness, echoing past experiences where collective action has mitigated the impacts of severe weather.
In these trying times, Fijians are reminded of the importance of securing properties, gathering emergency supplies, and maintaining communication. While Tropical Cyclone Rae poses challenges, it also provides an opportunity for communities to unite and reinforce their resilience in the face of adversity.
