The Pacific Islands Forum Troika-led mission to New Caledonia is set to take place in early October, as confirmed by Secretary General Baron Waqa during a press conference today.
Waqa stated, “Foreign leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to the TROIKA mission to New Caledonia, and we are discussing with the governments of New Caledonia and France the potential deployment of the mission in October.”
The Forum has been collaborating with the French State and the New Caledonian Government to ensure that the mission’s objectives and arrangements align with the expectations of all stakeholders involved.
Previously, the New Caledonian Government brought up concerns related to due process and protocol, leading to a postponement of the mission last month.
Waqa also confirmed that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will be part of the delegation. The Forum Troika serves as a vital regional political consultative mechanism, which is instrumental in facilitating regional initiatives.
