Emerald City, an ambitious $2 billion development poised to transform Nasinu into a vibrant economic center, aims to achieve city status by 2030. This comprehensive project, led by Nap Developments, is designed as a fully integrated smart city that will redefine urban living and tourism in Fiji.
Strategically located along the waterfront of Laucala Bay, Emerald City will offer a well-planned mix of residential, commercial, hospitality, and civic spaces in a gated, resort-style environment. Bal Sundaram, founder and managing director of Nap Developments, emphasized that the site’s proximity to the new second international airport (just 12 kilometers away) will enhance connectivity, turning Emerald City into a pivotal tourism hub for the eastern region of Viti Levu.
Emerald City’s design includes a diverse array of facilities such as residential housing, hotels, retail shops, entertainment venues, and sporting facilities, alongside essential services like wellness centers, eco-hotels, educational institutions, and even an aquaponics farming system. A strong commitment to sustainability is central to the project’s vision, featuring green energy solutions, water conservation measures, and efficient waste management.
A standout feature of the project will be the dedicated water transport services, which will include ferry routes from Nausori airport and other nearby destinations. This innovative approach aims to reduce traffic congestion while providing a scenic travel option, modeled after successful overseas water transportation systems.
Emerald City is set to become a major employment hub in the Suva and Nasinu region, expected to generate over a thousand jobs during its construction phase and thereafter. It will also foster a skilled workforce through various training initiatives, bolstering economic opportunities both locally and internationally.
As for the residential aspects, the first phase of the residential precinct will consist of 184 lots, with plans to ensure a range of living options that cater to different socioeconomic backgrounds. The goal is to provide residents with easy access to parks and recreational areas, fostering a lifestyle that embraces both modern conveniences and natural beauty.
The project has garnered support from various stakeholders, including the Prime Minister’s Office and the Nasinu Town Council, both of whom have been instrumental in facilitating this transformative venture.
Emerald City stands poised to serve as a beacon of growth and innovation in Fiji, promoting sustainable living, economic development, and a vibrant community for residents and visitors alike. As construction gets underway, the project symbolizes a hopeful vision for the future, enhancing the region’s potential and tourism appeal.
In summary, this groundbreaking development is expected to reshape Nasinu, creating a model for urban living that harmonizes nature with modern conveniences, ultimately improving the quality of life for current and future residents.
