A tragic motor vehicle accident occurred yesterday along Valley Road in Sigatoka, resulting in the death of a man in his 20s. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the victim was one of four passengers in a car driven by a 22-year-old driver. The vehicle reportedly lost control, veered off the road, and rolled multiple times near Navula, throwing the victim from the car and causing fatal injuries.

The driver and the other passengers were quickly transported to Sigatoka Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care as investigations into the incident continue.

In a concerning trend, the national road death toll currently stands at 55, which is a decrease compared to 74 fatalities recorded during the same period last year. This reduction may indicate improvements in road safety awareness, although such accidents remind us of the importance of responsible driving and adherence to safety measures.

While this incident is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers on the roads, it also highlights the need for continued efforts in traffic safety campaigns to prevent future tragedies.
