A tragic accident has claimed the life of a truck driver in his 40s in Navaga, Navosa. The incident occurred yesterday morning around 10 am when the driver was transporting gravel. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the driver lost control of the vehicle while descending a hill, causing it to veer off the road.
Unfortunately, the driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. The current national road death toll now stands at 60, a decline from 74 deaths reported during the same period last year, indicating some progress in road safety.
This incident highlights the importance of road safety measures, particularly for heavy vehicle operators navigating challenging terrains. While this tragedy is a significant loss, the decrease in the overall national road death toll offers a glimmer of hope that safety initiatives may be having a positive effect. Authorities will likely continue to review road conditions and driver safety training to prevent future accidents.
