A man in his 30s tragically lost his life in a road accident in Korolevu, Sigatoka, yesterday. The incident occurred when the victim, who was driving towards Sigatoka with several passengers, reportedly lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle veered into the opposite lane, leading to a head-on collision with a van.
Emergency services swiftly transported all occupants to Sigatoka Hospital, where the driver was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival. Three of the passengers were later transferred to Lautoka Aspen Hospital for further treatment and are currently under medical care.
Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death. This accident marks the 18th road fatality of the year, a slight decrease from the 19 fatalities recorded during the same period last year. This suggests ongoing road safety campaigns may be having some effect, as previous reports have highlighted a general trend towards improved road safety in the region.
