A man in his 30s tragically passed away following a road accident in Korolevu, Sigatoka, yesterday. Authorities reported that the vehicle he was driving veered into the opposite lane, leading to a head-on collision with a van.

Emergency services rushed all occupants to Sigatoka Hospital, where the man was pronounced dead upon arrival. Three additional individuals were later transferred to Lautoka Aspen Hospital, where they remain under observation.

A post-mortem exam will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, and police are actively investigating the incident.

This accident marks the 18th road fatality of the year in the country, which is notably just one less than the total recorded at the same time last year. Comparatively, a previous report highlighted improvements in road safety, with the total road fatalities for earlier periods showing a significant decrease, attributing it to ongoing awareness campaigns designed to promote responsible driving habits.

As efforts to enhance road safety continue, communities are encouraged to remain vigilant and practice safe driving to prevent further tragedies. The hope is that through concerted actions and greater public awareness, the trend of road fatalities will continue to decline, keeping more families safe on the roads.
