Ilisabeta Dravuni’s farewell to her two sons was filled with love as she urged them, “DRAU veilomani, sa rauta na gunu” (love each other and that’s enough drinking), before leaving for a church crusade in another village in Naitasiri. Tragically, later that evening, she received a devastating call from the police informing her of a serious accident involving both of her sons.

Upon rushing to Vunidawa Hospital, Dravuni received the heart-wrenching news that her younger son had died, while her elder son was rushed to CWM Hospital. Shockingly, upon arrival, she learned that 25-year-old Serupepeli Lalabalavu had already passed away and was in the mortuary. This incident marked an unbelievably painful day for the grieving family.

The two brothers were reportedly drinking at their home in Waitolu, Naitasiri, when a disagreement escalated. In light of this tragedy, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana has urged Fijians to act responsibly, especially regarding alcohol consumption.

While the family’s loss is profound, it serves as a painful reminder of the risks associated with drinking and the importance of communication and conflict resolution. In moments of sorrow, it is essential for communities to come together, support one another, and foster environments where love and understanding prevail over conflict.

This story encourages individuals and families to prioritize their well-being and seek healthy ways to address disagreements, which can ultimately prevent such heartbreaking outcomes in the future.
