A devastating incident in Dreketi, Macuata, has resulted in the tragic death of an eight-year-old boy who was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road after leaving a licensed transport carrier. Reports indicate that the child crossed the street unexpectedly, leading to a severe collision that propelled him approximately 24 meters before he came to rest on the tarsealed road.
In light of this tragedy, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) is urging increased vigilance from all road users, especially in areas where children gather, such as school zones. LTA CEO Irimaia Rokosawa extended condolences to the bereaved family and emphasized the importance of caution among drivers, highlighting the unpredictable behavior of children who may dart into roadways without warning.
