An 8-year-old girl has tragically become the latest victim of a road fatality in the country. The incident occurred on Thursday night when she was crossing Edinburgh Drive with her father. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, they were struck by a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man.

Both the child and her father were promptly taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, where sadly, the young girl was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Senior Superintendent Divuana noted that the national road death toll has reached 55 this year, a slight decrease compared to 74 fatalities during the same timeframe last year. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the driver involved will be questioned shortly.

While this news is undoubtedly somber, it emphasizes the need for heightened road safety awareness and measures to protect pedestrians, especially vulnerable children. Community efforts can help ensure such tragedies are minimized in the future.

It is important for everyone to remain vigilant on the roads and advocate for safer practices to prevent similar accidents from occurring.
