The recent opening of BRED Bank’s Sigatoka branch was celebrated with a traditional sevusevu ceremony, honoring the paramount chief of Nadroga, Ratu Tevita Makutu. This ceremony, which occurred a week prior to the official opening, showcased the bank’s commitment to engaging with the Nadroga community in a culturally respectful manner.
During the sevusevu, BRED Bank representative Nimilote Ganilau expressed gratitude to the chief for permitting the bank to establish its branch on the land and sought his blessing for future operations. The bank also aimed to cultivate relationships with nearby villages through financial literacy outreach programs that would benefit families and communities.
Ratu Tevita Makutu graciously accepted the sevusevu and granted his blessing for BRED Bank to operate in Nadroga. In his remarks, he encouraged the bank to serve the local populace with integrity and to commit long-term to community development. He also invited BRED Bank to enhance their financial offerings to suit the needs of Fijians better.
The ceremony was not only a celebration of BRED Bank’s new branch but also highlighted the strengthening relationship between the bank and the vanua, reinforcing respect and partnership as core elements of their operational philosophy in Fiji. BRED Bank leadership emphasized that sustainable banking is built on trust and mutual respect, crucial for effective community engagement.
The Sigatoka branch is expected to significantly enhance access to modern banking services for local residents, farmers, and businesses in the Nadroga–Navosa region. Additionally, the branch’s commitment to financial literacy initiatives will play a crucial role in empowering surrounding communities.
By observing traditional customs and engaging with local leadership, BRED Bank has solidified its role as a long-term partner in the province, laying down a strong foundation for its presence in Sigatoka. This approach underscores the bank’s dedication to respecting local traditions while contributing to economic growth and community support.
