Fiji National Rugby League Under 18 squad member Tevita Coladuadua has shared that the team’s preparations for their highly anticipated match against the Tonga Schoolboys have been quite challenging. Under the leadership of head coach Wise Kativerata, the training sessions have been intense, requiring both physical and mental resilience from the players.

Coladuadua commented on the unique experience of training with Coach Kativerata, acknowledging the strict and focused environment. He stated, “It’s not easy training under Coach Kativerata; he only speaks once, and we have to listen and switch on; otherwise, we all just know what’s coming.” He emphasized that although the sessions are tough, they have fostered a strong sense of unity among the young athletes. Many players, having come together from different regions of Fiji, are forming bonds that he believes will be essential during the match.

For Coladuadua and his teammates, this game isn’t just a chance to showcase their skills but also a significant opportunity that could lead to professional contracts. “When we started, we didn’t take discipline seriously, but after a few days together and with the intense training, I can tell that everyone here means business now, ready to take on Tonga this weekend,” he shared, highlighting their evolving dedication.

The Test match against Tonga is scheduled for 9 am this Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka. It will serve as a curtain raiser for the Kaiviti Silktails versus West Tigers game, which will be broadcast live at 12 pm. Such opportunities are crucial for the team’s growth and reflect the broader trends within Fijian rugby, which aim to develop young talent both on and off the pitch.

This match represents hope and potential not only for the players but also for the future of rugby in Fiji, illustrating the commitment to personal development, teamwork, and community values that the Fiji Rugby Union is championing. With the dedication these young athletes have shown, there is a promising outlook for their journey ahead.
