Local boxer Ubayd Haider anticipates showcasing his finest performance as he prepares to face China’s Runqi Zhao for the IBO Asia Pacific Super Weight title this Saturday at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, during the South Pacific Boxing Promotion (SPBP) event.

In a recent interview, Haider expressed his eagerness for the bout, stating that he has underwent extensive training in preparation. “I have trained really hard for this fight, as though I am facing a world champion tomorrow. I am very positive and 100 percent confident that this belt will remain in Fiji,” he remarked.

Haider also mentioned the personal motivation stemming from his opponent’s coach and statements made by Zhao on social media. “I want to see how good Zhao is,” he added.

The boxer revealed that he has not felt this nervous before a fight in a long time but believes that these nerves will dissipate once he enters the ring. “When the moment arrives and my opponent and I stand in front of each other, all these butterflies will fade away, and my focus will be solely on the fight,” said Haider.

Promoter Freddy Chand emphasized that this title fight represents a significant opportunity for Haider. “This is a great chance for the Fiji public to see Ubayd compete on home ground. We have a total of three international IBO titles and one local title on the line,” Chand noted, adding that there will be 10 bouts approved by the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF).

He also announced that sports icon Sonny Bill Williams will be the chief guest at the event, expressing gratitude to the chairman for their support.
