The youngest child benefiting from the support of WOWS Kids Fiji in their fight against cancer is a mere 10 months old. This poignant fact came to light during the International Childhood Cancer Day Fun Walk, held at Albert Park in Suva, where over 400 supporters gathered to show solidarity with these brave children battling the disease.

Sina Kami, co-founder of WOWS, highlighted the organization’s vital role in providing assistance to young cancer patients. Whenever a child is diagnosed with cancer at a hospital, the facility reaches out to WOWS, which then ensures that parents receive the necessary support. “That’s the beginning of our service,” Ms. Kami stated. The organization not only provides medical support but also facilitates transportation for families, picking them up and dropping them off as needed.

Ms. Kami shared that some children are in the palliative stage of their illness, a heartbreaking reality for many families. Currently, she noted that there are about six children receiving palliative care, with two newly admitted last week, emphasizing the urgency and importance of their mission.

WOWS Kids Fiji is currently supporting 59 children from various regions across the nation, extending their care to patients in Lautoka, northern Fiji, and the central area. The organization’s commitment to these children and their families is unwavering, as they continue to offer essential services during these challenging times.

With heartfelt gratitude, Ms. Kami thanked the donors and supporters who have been a cornerstone of their work since 2009. “We’ve been walking on and walking strong through the love and the support of the people of Fiji, so I just want to say thank you. It’s not easy to stand and see the faces of parents who have lost their children,” she expressed, underscoring the emotional toll on families affected by childhood cancer.

This event serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience of these families, and the community’s collective effort to support the fight against childhood cancer. As more people join hands to support initiatives like WOWS Kids Fiji, there is hope that improvements in care and support will continue to emerge, making a difference in the lives of children and their families across Fiji.
