The High Court in Suva has convicted Timoci Matanimeke for the murder of Nitya Nand, which occurred just a day before Christmas in Samabula, Suva, in 2023. Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull found Matanimeke guilty on various charges, including murder, aggravated robbery, and criminal trespass.

During the trial, evidence revealed that Matanimeke violently attacked Mr. Nand, striking him multiple times in the head, face, and cheekbones. Following the assault, he stole Mr. Nand’s Samsung mobile phone and safety boots. Surveillance footage captured Matanimeke leaving the scene with the stolen items, and Mr. Nand was later discovered sitting in a pool of blood.

Justice Bull stated that she was convinced beyond a reasonable doubt of Matanimeke’s guilt in this tragic crime. The court has scheduled a sentencing hearing for December 18, where the consequences of his actions will be determined.

This case highlights the ongoing issue of violent crime within the community, but it also emphasizes the legal system’s commitment to justice and accountability. The upcoming sentencing hearing will be watched closely by the community, as it seeks closure in the aftermath of this grievous incident.
