Tiki Wasa netball club’s manager, Rosene Laliqavoka, emphasized this year’s objective is to strengthen players’ skills, foster growth in the sport, and ensure they enjoy every game. Laliqavoka manages three teams: Tiki Wasa (Premier), Tiki Vai (Super grade), and the development team, Tiki Makosoi, competing in the Suva Netball Club League.

During a recent round of league matches at the National Netball Centre, Laliqavoka expressed her commitment to the club despite the need to find a new manager for the development team. “I’m happy to manage all three girls’ teams,” she stated.

Founded as a volleyball team, Tiki has evolved significantly since forming its first girls’ netball team in 2021. The club has grown to include seven teams—Tiki Wasa, Tiki Vai, Tiki Makosoi, alongside Tiki Tui (major grade), Tiki Lei (queens), and two mixed teams, Tiki Lagi and Tiki Tribe. Laliqavoka noted, “This year we brought in a lot of new girls. For instance, Tiki Makosoi played for the first time and lost narrowly, 10-8—that’s a good start.”

Showing dedication, preseason began in January with fitness training, followed by on-court practice in March. Laliqavoka shared that the club promotes unity, support, and personal development, helping players unfamiliar with the sport and assisting those facing challenges with transportation or financial needs.

Their overarching goal is to ensure ongoing improvement throughout the season, with Laliqavoka hoping to see the girls end the season stronger than how they started. This dedication to nurturing players not only contributes to their skills development but also fosters a greater sense of community within the club.

This uplift in morale and growth reflects a positive atmosphere across the sport, with clubs like Tiki Wasa showing commitment to developing players at all levels. As they advance through the league, the community spirit and support of players, coaches, and families will drive the sport’s further success.

Overall, netball in Suva is on the rise, with various clubs, including Tiki Wasa, contributing positively to the sport’s growth and the development of future talents.
