Tiki Vai celebrated their first victory of the season last Saturday, triumphing over Grasshoppers with a score of 43-37 in the Super Grade of the New World Suva Netball Association’s club league. This win was crucial for Tiki Vai, who had faced four consecutive losses in previous matches. Team manager Rosene Laliqavoka expressed the significance of this victory, highlighting its positive impact on the players’ morale heading into their upcoming matches.
Laliqavoka emphasized that the team started the season competing against top-ranked teams and struggled to keep pace, often falling short by just five points. “This win is pivotal for maintaining our team’s spirit,” she stated. “If we had lost again, it could have affected the girls’ mental outlook going forward.”
The introduction of the super shot in league play has added a new level of competitiveness, which Laliqavoka noted contributed positively to their performance. Looking ahead, she expressed confidence in the team’s potential to win their next three games.
Round six is set to take place at the National Netball Centre in Suva, further igniting enthusiasm among players and fans for the competitions to come.
Reflecting on Tiki Vai’s progress and the overall atmosphere of growth within the league, it’s promising to see how the strong community spirit, as emphasized by both Laliqavoka and other club managers, is fostering resilience and development among the players. This year, several clubs, including Tiki Vai, are not only focusing on competition but also on personal growth and teamwork, creating a vibrant netball community in Suva.
The success and determination illustrated by Tiki Vai serve as a beacon of hope for clubs striving to improve and showcase talent in the ongoing league.
