Principals and school leaders have been formally warned about the serious consequences of misusing or mismanaging school funds. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro issued this reminder during the 2025 Nadi Muslim College Carnival and the groundbreaking ceremony for a new multi-purpose hall. He emphasized the increased financial autonomy granted to school leaders but highlighted that this autonomy must come with stringent accountability measures.
Radrodro stated, “With this freedom comes responsibility,” and underscored the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that every dollar spent serves its intended purpose. This will be achieved through strong accountability frameworks, clear spending guidelines, and regular performance audits.
Echoing previous statements related to the management of sporting funds, the Minister reiterated the critical need for transparency, especially regarding financial practices in various school activities, including sports events. His remarks resonate with the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives aimed at safeguarding student welfare and ensuring that opportunities in school sports and other engagements benefit students directly and fairly.
Key education reforms to better prepare students for the future are also on the agenda, further indicating a proactive approach by the Ministry in enhancing educational standards and student outcomes across the board.
Such measures and reforms reflect a hopeful vision for the educational landscape in Fiji, where accountability and community collaboration could lead to improved resources and support structures for students, fostering a more effective learning environment. This commitment to both transparency and robust student welfare is essential for nurturing the next generation of leaders and learners in the country.
