A moderate southeasterly flow will keep much of Fiji partly cloudy today with brief showers affecting a number of coastal and island areas, while most other districts remain generally fine. Isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms are possible over parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Winds are expected to be moderate to fresh and seas moderate to rough through tonight.
Brief showers are likely today over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere conditions should be mainly fine apart from the chance of isolated afternoon or evening showers. The risk of isolated thunderstorms is flagged particularly for Viti Levu and Vanua Levu during the afternoon and evening hours.
Marine conditions will be choppier than usual with moderate to rough seas under the prevailing southeast winds. Boaters and those planning coastal activities should take the sea state into account, as short‑period gusts may accompany the freshening southeasterlies.
Temperatures across many centres will be warm. For Navua, Suva and Nausori expect lows around 22°C and highs near 31°C (Friday outlook: cloudy periods with brief showers, 21–31°C). Nadi, Lautoka and Ba are forecast around 22–33°C today, with the same pattern of afternoon or evening showers and possible thunderstorms continuing into Friday (Friday highs around 32°C). Similar daytime highs to low 30s are expected for Tavua/Rakiraki and Labasa, while the Yasawa/Mamanuca group should remain mainly fine with 22–31°C.
Rotuma is currently in a southeasterly flow and a trough of low pressure is likely to affect the island from tomorrow. Today the island should see some showers and isolated thunderstorms with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds and moderate to rough seas (min 24°C, max 32°C). The outlook for Friday is for cloudier periods with some showers.
