Team Padayachi clinched the championship title in the 16th Sunny West Bowling Carnival 2025 Fours Section Cup, held at the Nadi Sports and Social Club. The team, composed of Shivan Padayachi, Pita Cabenasiga, Som Padayachi, and Filipe Delai, triumphed over the defending champions, led by Rajnesh Prasad, with a close score of 11-10.
The final match turned into a nail-biter, with both teams tied at 10-10 heading into the 14th end. In a display of remarkable skill and composure, Padayachi executed a perfectly weighted final draw that secured the victory. Following the win, an emotional Shivan Padayachi expressed his long-standing commitment to the sport, stating, “This is the moment I’ve trained for my whole career. To beat a champion like Rajnesh in this fashion is unbelievable.”
In a show of sportsmanship, Prasad acknowledged the superior performance of Team Padayachi and commended them for their achievement.
The tournament also featured other significant matches, where Graeme Kath’s team triumphed over Sanjit Sen’s team with a score of 14-10. The plate final saw Semesa Naiserivati, Raymond Singh, Bobby Prasad, Josaia Jare, and Dan Vinod dominate Munesh Kumar’s team, winning decisively at 30-8.
Sanjit Sen, the tournament chair, remarked on the event’s success, stating, “This year’s carnival raised the bar for lawn bowls in Fiji. The skill on display, especially in that incredible final, shows how much our sport is growing.” The bowling action will continue with a Pairs tournament set to commence the following day at the same venue.
