Three tragic road accidents have resulted in the deaths of three individuals in separate incidents.
In the first case, a 65-year-old woman from Korociriciri Road in Nausori was hit by a vehicle while waiting by the roadside early yesterday morning. She was quickly taken to the Nausori Health Centre but sadly was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities have confirmed that the driver of the vehicle involved is currently in police custody.
In a second incident, a man lost his life at the scene after the vehicle he was driving veered off the Queens Road along the Yarawa stretch near Talanua around 2:30 PM. Preliminary investigations suggest the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, raising concerns about road safety and the dangers of impaired driving.
Additionally, a 34-year-old man succumbed to injuries from a road accident that occurred on Boxing Day. He was traveling along Waicoka Road towards Nausori when the vehicle he was in failed to negotiate a bend, resulting in it veering off the road and landing in a mud pool. The driver fled the scene, casting further shadows on the incident. The victim initially received treatment at the Nausori Health Centre and was later transferred to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, where he unfortunately passed away.
Police investigations are actively ongoing into all three incidents, highlighting the critical need for drivers to exercise caution and responsibility on the roads. These tragic occurrences serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of road safety and the devastating impacts that accidents can have on families and communities.
