Three individuals tragically lost their lives in separate road accidents yesterday as authorities continue their investigations.
The first incident involved a 65-year-old woman from Korociriciri Road in Nausori, who was struck by a vehicle while waiting for a bus early in the morning. Despite being rushed to the Nausori Health Centre, she was pronounced dead upon arrival. The driver of the vehicle has since been taken into police custody.
The second fatality occurred along Queens Road at the Yarawa stretch near Talanua, Serua, at approximately 2:30 PM. In this case, a man died at the scene after his vehicle veered off the road. Preliminary reports suggest that the driver may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash.
In a separate incident, a 34-year-old man succumbed to injuries incurred in a road accident that took place on Boxing Day. The man was traveling along Waicoka Road towards Nausori when the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a bend. The vehicle ended up in a mud pool after leaving the road. The driver fled the scene, while the victim received initial treatment at Nausori Health Centre before being transferred to CWM Hospital, where he ultimately passed away last night.
Police are actively investigating all three incidents as they seek to uncover the circumstances surrounding these unfortunate events. This string of road fatalities highlights the critical importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations. As authorities work towards ensuring safer roadways, communities are reminded to prioritize caution and responsible behavior while driving.
