The Fiji Council of Churches, in collaboration with the Indian High Commission, organized an Ecumenical Christmas Carol event at the Suva Civic Centre on Monday night. This event brought together various denominations to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, reinforcing the spirit of unity and community during the festive season.
This year’s theme, “The light shining in the Darkness,” resonated deeply with attendees and emphasized the importance of keeping Christ at the center of Christmas celebrations. Reverend Dr. Anil Reuben from the Methodist Church of Fiji and the Archbishop of the Catholic Church in Fiji, Peter Loy Chong, delivered inspiring messages that urged participants to reclaim Christmas as a time for faith rather than consumerism.
In addition to the carol singing, the event featured a Nativity play performed by children, highlighting one of the oldest Christmas traditions that depicts the sacred moments leading up to the birth of Christ. Indian High Commissioner Suneet Mehta was also in attendance, further symbolizing the collaboration and friendship between Fiji and India.
Such events are significant as they foster a sense of community and shared beliefs among diverse groups, reminding everyone of the joy and meaning behind the holiday. The gathering effectively promoted the true essence of Christmas, making it a night to remember for all involved.
