Golf clubs from the Western Division will converge at the Nadi Airport Golf Club this Sunday for the annual Theodore Trophy Teams event. This competition sees premier club teams from Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Denarau, and Natadola face off in various categories including A, B, and C grades, in addition to a special Junior/Women’s division contingent on the number of registrations.
Beyond club rivalry, this tournament acts as a selection event for the West team, paving the way for the much-anticipated East vs West showdown later in the year. Golf Fiji’s president, Amitesh Chandra, confirmed the new date for the Theodore Cup Challenge, emphasizing their dedication to supporting local athletes. “We’ve rescheduled the event to Sunday, May 25. Registration starts at 9am, with tee-off scheduled for 9.30am. Golf Fiji will cover green fees, lunch, and transportation for teams from Ba and Lautoka,” he noted.
Each club will field a six-player team in each category, while the Junior/Women’s division, if organized, will consist of a combined team of four players. The format for the event is Scratch Stableford, with the trophy awarded to the team accumulating the highest combined stableford points.
Chandra also mentioned that Rohit Chandra is overseeing the event logistics and encouraged participating clubs to submit their team rosters by May 23.
This event not only highlights the competitive spirit among clubs but also reflects Golf Fiji’s ongoing commitment to promoting the sport and fostering a vibrant golfing community. As teams prepare to showcase their skills, it serves as a platform for youth engagement and development in golf, inspiring the next generation of players in Fiji.
