Participants in the 2024 Extra Supermarket Central Community Games have been granted a wonderful early Christmas surprise as they will receive refunds for their registration fees. This exciting news was shared by Peter Mazey, CEO of the Fiji National Sports Commission, during the event’s opening ceremony.

Mazey highlighted the impressive turnout, noting that over 140 teams representing various communities came together, showcasing a strong spirit of teamwork and talent among more than 1,000 young athletes. The event features a diverse range of sports, including baseball, 7s rugby, soccer, volleyball, netball, and beach football.

In addition to the fee refunds, Mazey announced that substantial cash prizes would be awarded to the top four teams in each sport, celebrating their dedication and achievements. He commended the referees, technical officials, and coaches, many of whom have benefited from training programs backed by the government.

Gratitude was also expressed to sponsors such as Extra Supermarket, Digicel, BSP Life, and Fiji Water, alongside the Fiji Police Force for their support throughout the competition. Mazey underscored that the registration fees collected would be refunded at the conclusion of the games, reinforcing the initiative as a means to empower communities and further encourage sports development.

Wishing all participants a joyful holiday season, Mazey remarked on the importance of community involvement in sports and the positive impact it brings.

This initiative not only promotes local sports development but also fosters community spirit, making the event a fitting celebration of youth engagement and athletic excellence. As these young athletes display their skills and camaraderie, their efforts highlight the essence of sports bringing people together.
