Team Fiji is putting the finishing touches on its preparations for the upcoming Pacific Mini Games, which will take place in Palau from June 29 to July 9. Chef de mission Josaia Tuinamata addressed athletes and officials during a team assembly at the UseAID Theatre at the University of the South Pacific, emphasizing the importance of readiness as departure approaches.

“Our athletes are training hard, and yesterday’s assembly ensured everyone is equipped with crucial information,” Tuinamata stated. Following last week’s i-tatau, the focus has shifted to final briefings and logistical checks.

The Fiji delegation will consist of 186 members, including 73 male athletes, 63 female athletes, and 50 officials, representing various sports such as athletics, swimming, volleyball, weightlifting, and archery. Notably, the athletics team recently completed their time trials, while weightlifters wrapped up their maximum sessions, showcasing the dedication and focus of the participants.

Team Fiji is scheduled to travel to Palau in two waves on June 27 and 28 via chartered flights, with travel logistics streamlined by the team’s headquarters. Tuinamata confirmed that the necessary travel documents, along with accommodation arrangements in Palau, are being finalized.

In addition to preparing for competition, a nine-member medical team is available to support athletes daily, ensuring their well-being leading up to the Games. Tuinamata also highlighted the inclusion of young athletes being groomed for future Olympic Games, reinforcing the long-term vision for Fiji’s sports development.

As a send-off, a church service will be conducted today to bless the team members before their journey. This collective effort to prepare for the Pacific Mini Games not only showcases Fiji’s athletic talent but also fosters national pride and unity, reflecting the hope that the athletes will perform admirably in Palau.

Previous articles have underscored the enthusiasm surrounding Team Fiji, referencing strong performances in the lead-up to the Games, including impressive showings at the Coca-Cola Games. This momentum builds a spirit of camaraderie and pride among the athletes, who are determined to represent Fiji honorably during the international competition.

The unwavering community support and the athletes’ commitment underscore a hopeful and optimistic outlook for Team Fiji, as they aim to make a significant impact at the Pacific Mini Games.
