Tropical Disturbance TD03F has been elevated to Tropical Depression TD03F as it continues to linger slowly to the northeast of Vanuatu. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, while the system is currently exhibiting a low potential for development into a tropical cyclone, it remains a weather event of concern.
TD03F is moving southeastward between Fiji and Vanuatu and is expected to enter Fiji’s waters tomorrow. The surrounding trough of low pressure is already impacting the region, leading to overcast skies and intermittent rainfall. With soil saturation from ongoing rain, the threat of flash flooding is heightened, especially in low-lying areas and regions near major rivers and small streams.
As TD03F approaches, Fiji can anticipate increasing rainfall starting tomorrow, persisting through Wednesday when the depression is expected to exit the Lau Group. The Fiji Meteorological Service has warned that strong northerly winds, averaging around 50 km/h and gusting up to 70 km/h, may affect the northern parts of Vanua Levu, the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, as well as the northern Lau and Lomaiviti Groups during this time.
Improvement in weather conditions is anticipated from Thursday, as the system moves away from the area. The Fiji Meteorological Service is committed to closely monitoring this evolving situation, issuing necessary updates and warnings to the public. Residents are encouraged to stay informed via official channels and take precautions during this period of unstable weather, ensuring their safety in light of the potential hazards.
