The Water Authority has announced that maintenance work will take place at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant this weekend, which is expected to temporarily impact water supply in several areas. The scheduled maintenance will commence at 3 PM on Saturday and is anticipated to restore supply beginning early Sunday morning.

The maintenance involves replacing a defective valve at the plant’s inlet that regulates raw water flow from the Savura Raw Water Pump Station. Engineers from the Water Authority identified this issue, which has been causing unstable water inflows and increasing strain on the supply system.

This planned shutdown is essential to prevent a potentially serious asset failure and to enhance the overall reliability and resilience of the Tamavua water supply. During the maintenance period, the treatment capacity at the plant will be reduced by about 50%, which may lead to lower water pressure, intermittent supply, or complete outages in affected areas. Priority will be given to essential services, including the CWM Hospital.

Water production is set to resume at 3 AM on Sunday, though full restoration of service may take several hours as reservoirs fill and treatment processes become stable. Residents are encouraged to store enough water in advance of the shutdown, conserve water, and limit non-essential uses such as watering gardens or washing cars. Water carting trucks will be ready to assist residents facing supply disruptions.

This proactive measure by the Water Authority is aimed at improving infrastructure and ensuring a dependable water supply in the future.
