Fiji Airways men’s 7s playmaker Terio Tamani has emphasized the need for improved discipline as the team gears up for the upcoming Vancouver 7s. His comments follow a narrow 21-19 defeat to South Africa in the men’s cup final at the Perth 7s, where Fiji’s missed opportunities and penalties played a pivotal role in the loss.
Reflecting on the match, Tamani acknowledged, “One area we need to improve in is our discipline.” He pointed out that yellow cards in previous games have been detrimental, and finding a way to enhance discipline on the field is crucial for future success.
Despite the loss, Fiji demonstrated resilience by staying competitive until the final moments of the match. Tamani expressed confidence in the team’s ability to regroup, stating, “Going to Vancouver we need to work and improve on those areas, the importance of maintaining discipline.”
In the final, Fiji trailed early but mounted a spirited comeback, only to see their efforts thwarted as South Africa expertly managed the endgame to secure victory. With their focus now shifting to the Vancouver 7s, Fiji has been placed in Pool B, where they will face off against formidable opponents including Argentina, France, and Australia. The eagerly anticipated tournament is set to take place on March 7-8, and with the right adjustments, Fiji aims to capitalize on their potential and make a strong showing.
