In response to ongoing concerns about the impact of drugs on young individuals, the Suva District Church has launched a structured initiative aimed at engaging youth in positive community activities. On Saturday, over 50 youths participated in a clean-up and outreach program organized by the All-Nations Christian Fellowship, which marks the beginning of a monthly initiative focused on youth prevention and instilling a sense of community responsibility.
Senior pastor Etonia Bose emphasized the program’s goal of combating the escalating drug crisis and its associated criminal activities. “The primary motivation for this initiative is to support the community and the government in fighting the war on drugs and criminal activities,” Mr. Bose stated. He highlighted the importance of involving young people in constructive activities to help redirect their attention away from negative influences.
By engaging youth in community work, the initiative aims to foster a sense of responsibility and keep them occupied with positive endeavors, thereby reducing the likelihood of drug use or involvement in crime. The day’s activities included community clean-up tasks in the morning, followed by evangelism and outreach sessions in the afternoon.
Mr. Bose pointed out that the church has invested the past two years in developing counseling programs designed to tackle pressing social issues affecting young people, such as drug use, teenage pregnancy, and family challenges. He noted, “Our youth are the generation that will eventually lead our country, our schools, and our organizations. We want to ensure they have a clear mindset regarding their responsibilities. If we do not engage young people early and positively, the problem will continue to grow.”
This initiative reflects a proactive approach to safeguarding the future of the community by empowering its youth. By providing them with structured activities, the church hopes to create a supportive environment that encourages personal growth and responsibility. In doing so, it not only addresses immediate concerns related to drug use but also fosters a sense of belonging and purpose among the youth.
