Mere Biucavu starts her day well before dawn, meticulously planning meals for her food business based in Suva. Shopping for ingredients is essential for her operations, as she makes daily trips to acquire fresh produce, reserving larger grocery runs for the weekends when she can take advantage of better prices on meat and bulk items at Tebara Supermarket in Vatuwaqa.

By striking a balance between local and imported products, Biucavu ensures that her meals remain affordable without sacrificing quality, a principle that has become the foundation of her business. The entrepreneurial journey began with her mother, who initially baked cakes and pies to support the family. Following her father’s retirement and subsequent passing, Biucavu took the reins of the family venture after the birth of her first child, while her mother provided childcare support.

Today, she caters meals to several prominent offices, including Westpac, the Bank of South Pacific, and The Fiji Times. Collaborating closely with her twin sister and mother, Biucavu prepares two menu options every day. Her story exemplifies how dedication, family support, and culinary talent can create a thriving livelihood, demonstrating not just resilience but also the vital role of family in building a successful business. Through her efforts, she not only sustains her family’s legacy but also contributes to the community by providing quality meals.
