Parking enforcement in Suva City is poised for a significant transformation with the introduction of the Bula Parki platform, which will enable cashless payments and real-time monitoring. This innovative system aims to replace outdated manual parking methods, helping the Suva City Council to streamline operations and enhance compliance among motorists.

Dineshwar Lal, Managing Director of D2UNET, emphasized that the Bula Parki platform modernizes parking through the integration of technology and cashless transactions. This initiative is expected to improve oversight across the city, providing council officers with the tools needed to monitor parking activities with greater accuracy and efficiency.

Reflecting on urban mobility challenges, Lal noted, “Urban mobility is critical. We all know that. Every morning, when we’re driving to work, traffic jams are inevitable, and finding parking is particularly difficult in city areas. This platform represents an initial step towards providing greater flexibility and facilitating easier access to the Suva City area.”

The digital system is designed not only to facilitate cashless payments but also to enhance parking administration and enforcement processes. It will supply valuable data on parking patterns, peak usage times, and vehicle turnover, which are critical for effective management of the city’s limited parking spaces. Lal highlighted that this modernization effort will lead to a more convenient and consistent experience for both motorists and local businesses.

Tevita Boseiwaqa, Chair of the Suva City Council, acknowledged ongoing concerns regarding non-operational parking meters, which have been a persistent issue. He explained, “This challenge has been raised repeatedly, and when we seek parts to address the problem, we find that they are no longer available as suppliers are transitioning to digital parking solutions. The only way to address this is to adopt our own digital parking meters.”

The Suva City Council has confirmed that the Bula Parki platform will initially be implemented in council-owned car parks, with plans for expansion into inner-city areas following necessary amendments to local laws. This strategic move signifies a commitment to improving urban infrastructure and enhancing the overall driving and parking experience for residents and visitors alike.
