The Kaunikuila Basketball Club is set to host one of Fiji’s most significant basketball tournaments next month in Suva. In collaboration with Pacific Basketball Australia, the inaugural McDonald’s Pacific Basketball Club Tournament is scheduled to take place at the Vodafone Arena from March 26 to 28.
According to Kaunikuila president Ben Naisau, this event represents a pivotal moment for the future of basketball in Fiji. The tournament will showcase a competitive lineup, featuring 14 men’s teams and six women’s teams, which includes participation from two teams based in Australia.
The initiative is being co-led by Jordon Lum Kon, General Manager of Pacific Basketball and a Fiji representative as well as a gold medalist at the South Pacific Games, and his wife, Esther Lum Kon. Their involvement underscores Pacific Basketball Australia’s dedication to fostering regional and grassroots development in the sport.
Naisau expressed gratitude for the support from key sponsors, including Pacific Building Solutions, Asco Motors Fiji, BSP Life, Fiji Water, and South Sea Cruises, who have made this tournament possible. This event not only promotes the sport but also strengthens the ties within the Pacific community, showcasing the talent and passion for basketball in the region.
