The Rotaract Club of Suva recently delivered an ultrasound machine to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. This significant donation was facilitated by Dr. John Salmon, a Rotarian based in Melbourne and former lecturer at the Fiji National University, alongside local Rotaractor Clifford Smith from Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd.

Upon receiving the ultrasound system, Dr. Anisi Kavoa, the clinical lead for the ICU at CWM Hospital, expressed his gratitude for the donation, highlighting how the machine would be vital for not only ICU patients but also for other departments within the hospital’s east wing.

Margret Savou, president of the Rotaract Club of Suva, noted that this donation is part of a larger initiative aimed at enhancing the hospital’s capacity to serve its patients more effectively. She acknowledged the teamwork involved in this effort and thanked Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd for their logistical support.

Earlier this year, under the previous leadership of Kelera Kuboutawa, the club had contributed other essential medical equipment, including a respiratory monitor and various teaching displays. Last year, they also provided an ultrasound system to the obstetrics and gynaecology department.

The Rotaract Club of Suva, established on October 23, 1970, is recognized as the oldest Rotaract Club in the South Pacific. These clubs unite individuals aged 18 and older to collaborate with community leaders, develop professional skills, exchange ideas, and engage in service-oriented projects, fostering a spirit of goodwill and support within local communities.

In summary, the successful donation of the ultrasound system reflects the strong commitment of the Rotaract Club of Suva to improving healthcare services in their community, highlighting the positive impact of collaborative efforts between organizations and individuals dedicated to social responsibility and enhancement of public welfare.
