The Suva Netball Association has launched an exciting new “power play” format for the premier grades in their weekly club competition. This innovative rule, implemented in the Super and Major grades, enables teams to score one or two points during the final five minutes of each quarter, significantly enhancing the game’s excitement. Games coordinator Domiko Tabuarua highlighted that this initiative is part of their broader efforts to elevate the standard of netball at the club level.

The club competition commenced last weekend and is set to run for 10 weeks at the National Netball Center in Suva. The season will include 13 rounds, featuring 10 clubs and a total of 87 teams across nine diverse grades, ranging from under-nine categories to adult and mixed teams.

Notably, the introduction of the power play aligns with previous successes in netball, as competitors have expressed enthusiasm about the potential to create a more engaging spectator experience. The association is committed to fostering an inclusive and competitive netball environment, hoping to not only highlight local talent but also promote community involvement.

With round two of the competition currently in progress, anticipation is high for the competitive matches that lie ahead, promising an engaging season for players and fans alike.
