Residents in significant parts of Suva may experience low water pressure due to irregular water delivery, caused by mechanical issues at the Waila Raw Water Pump Station. The Fiji Water Authority has reported that two of the five raw water pumps at the station are currently out of service, which has severely impacted water output and affected key storage reservoirs, particularly the Wainibuku reservoir.

In response to this situation, the Water Authority’s operations team is working diligently to enhance the Waila and Wainibuku supply systems by incorporating the Viria Scheme. Efforts are underway to replace one of the malfunctioning pumps by tonight, which will help restore the Waila output to nearly normal levels and improve the water supply in the Wainibuku reservoir.

Infrastructure Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau has emphasized the importance of understanding the issues at the pump station to implement effective solutions. The replacement of the second faulty pump is expected to take place by tomorrow, with hopes for full water supply restoration by Thursday evening into Friday.

In the meantime, residents are encouraged to store sufficient water to meet their needs during this temporary disruption. Water carting trucks will be deployed to assist affected areas, ensuring that customers have access to water during this unforeseen outage.

This situation highlights the challenges of maintaining essential services, but the ongoing efforts of the Water Authority signal a commitment to resolving the issue promptly and efficiently, ultimately leading to a restored and reliable water supply for the residents of Suva.
