The Suva Magistrate’s Court has approved a request from the prosecution to merge the drug-related charges against three individuals, including two former police officers. The accused—Sevuloni Lubi, 43, Ratu Lote Lewaivanua, 32, and Alipate Matadigo, 36—are facing allegations of importing and possessing 4.7 kilograms of methamphetamine, as well as unlawfully transporting illicit drugs.
During a recent court appearance, the prosecution highlighted that the trio’s cases are intertwined, warranting the consolidation of the charges. Additionally, Lewaivanua faces a separate charge of possessing $650, which authorities suspect to be proceeds of criminal activity.
As no pleas were entered, the court has scheduled the next hearing for January 13 next year. The consolidation of these charges may streamline the legal process, allowing for a more efficient resolution to a case that raises significant concerns regarding drug trafficking and law enforcement integrity.
