The Suva City Council is taking steps to enhance internal controls while focusing on the importance of staff bonuses as a means to uplift morale, retention, and productivity. Council Chair Tevita Boseiwaqa emphasized that maintaining a productive workplace remains a top priority, particularly regarding staff welfare and motivation.
Boseiwaqa highlighted the crucial role that council workers play in keeping Suva clean and well-maintained. He acknowledged that the contributions made by employees have been instrumental in recent progress and stressed the necessity of ensuring they receive their rightful entitlements.
While recognizing that further improvement is needed, Boseiwaqa pointed out that acknowledging staff through performance bonuses is essential. He confirmed that performance bonuses for the previous year will be disbursed as the Council works to address outstanding payments from prior periods. Additionally, discussions are already in progress regarding bonuses for 2024, with payments for 2025 anticipated to occur soon, potentially as early as next month.
The Council aims to bring all bonus payments up to date to promote fairness and equity among staff moving forward. The proactive measures taken by the Suva City Council reflect a commitment to its employees and highlight the importance of their role in the community’s overall success.
