The Suva Bowling Club wrapped up the year 2025 with a sense of accomplishment, as expressed by vice president Ramesh Chand who reflected on the club’s successes. As they prepare for the upcoming year, there is a palpable excitement about what 2026 will bring.
Chand noted that the club successfully completed all planned games and tournaments on schedule, attributing this achievement to the critical support from generous sponsors who played an integral role in making each event successful. He conveyed gratitude, stating, “2025 has been a wonderful year for Suva Bowling Club. We hosted five national tournaments and welcomed new players, which has been a boost for our club.”
One notable outcome from the past year was the mixed results in competitions, indicating promising progress and the ongoing development of club members. The commitment to nurturing talent remains a priority, with plans to encourage increased participation in business house leagues aimed at further promoting the sport. Chand emphasized the strategy of consistently keeping their tournament calendar unchanged to foster player development.
While the year was marked by successes, challenges were also present, primarily due to weather issues that disrupted scheduling. Chand explained, “Our challenges we faced in 2025 were often related to the weather. If rain occurs, we’ve had to halt play for several hours.” To counter this, discussions are in progress with the Fiji Sports Council regarding the potential use of grass from the national stadium to improve the playing conditions at the club’s greens.
With the new year on the horizon, the club is committed to maintaining its event calendar while seeking innovative ways to enhance player development and increase participation. The upcoming Commonwealth Games in 2026 provide additional motivation for club members to elevate their skills and aim for excellence in competition.
Chand conveyed optimism about the club’s future, stating that with over 100 players participating in various competitions, the outlook for the next year looks promising. The appreciation for the dedication and commitment of all club members throughout the year underscores the collaborative effort that has led to the club’s growth.
As the Suva Bowling Club gears up for a bigger and better 2026, there is a collective enthusiasm and determination to further promote and develop the sport in the community.
