A 40-year-old man has been charged with assaulting his 38-year-old wife, while a 38-year-old man faces similar charges for assaulting a 41-year-old woman. These cases were noted in the November 2024 statistics released by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions concerning non-sexual violence offenses.

In a separate disturbing incident, a 49-year-old man was charged with intent to cause grievous harm after allegedly stabbing a victim in the back with scissors during an altercation. Additionally, a 41-year-old man also faced charges for assault with intent to cause grievous harm, but this case was halted after the victim could not be located for further proceedings.

The report also highlighted several instances of theft and burglary, including cash and various items taken during aggravated robbery and burglary incidents involving house and shop break-ins, as well as muggings at different times of day. A 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were charged with burglary and theft in one of the incidents.

In another case, two men, aged 34 and 29, were charged with aggravated burglary for breaking into Tilak High School in Lautoka, damaging property that included computer systems and school furniture. Additionally, two 19-year-old men were charged after allegedly stealing school furniture and electronics from Kids First Kindergarten in Suva.

Overall, a total of 21 individuals faced 27 charges for non-sexual violence offenses in November, which included serious crimes such as murder and attempted murder, as well as various forms of theft and burglary. Among the accused were two juveniles, and it was also noted that in two incidents, the victims and the accused were related.

While these incidents underscore ongoing challenges with violence and theft, they also highlight the crucial role of law enforcement and the judicial system in addressing such offenses and ensuring justice for victims. Community vigilance and support can offer hope in reducing violence and crime, encouraging safer environments for all.

In summary, although the statistics reveal troubling incidents of violence and theft, they also reflect the justice system’s active involvement in dealing with these matters effectively.
