The Nasinu Magistrates Court has ordered the remand of two individuals accused of robbing the Alison Supermarket in Laucala Beach on Monday. The suspects, 51-year-old Sosiveta Raura and 43-year-old Leone Lesumailepanoni, face four counts of robbery each. They appeared before Resident Magistrate Charles Ratakele, who has now transferred the case to the High Court in Suva.

During the court session, it was noted that the accused were arrested the same day as the alleged robbery. The charges were formally presented and understood by both individuals, who received the initial phase of disclosures. They have expressed an intention to seek private legal representation. The court has scheduled the next hearing for Thursday.

Additionally, police have questioned a third suspect in connection with the incident, but he has since been released. Authorities reported that the alleged robbery involved the suspects threatening supermarket employees with cane knives before making off with cash and goods in a taxi. Fortunately, the vehicle was recovered in Tacirua Heights just one hour following the robbery.

This case highlights the swift response of law enforcement in addressing criminal activity. The recovery of the getaway vehicle within a short timeframe demonstrates proactive policing efforts, which could serve as a deterrent to future crime in the area. It remains important for the community to remain vigilant and supportive of local law enforcement to enhance safety and security.

In summary, the suspects are now facing serious charges and will have their day in court, reflecting the legal system’s commitment to upholding justice.
