The Nasinu Magistrates Court has ordered two individuals to be held at the Suva Remand Centre following their alleged involvement in the robbery of Alison Supermarket in Laucala Beach on Monday. The accused, 51-year-old Sosiveta Raura and 43-year-old Leone Lesumailepanoni, are facing four counts of robbery each and appeared in court before Resident-Magistrate Charles Ratakele.

During the proceedings, Magistrate Ratakele transferred the case to the High Court in Suva. The court learned that the two suspects were apprehended on the same day as the alleged crime. The charges were formally read and acknowledged by both individuals, and the initial phase of disclosures was provided in court. The accused expressed their intention to engage private legal representation.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for the following Thursday. In a related development, a third suspect who was questioned in connection to the incident has been released by the police. Authorities previously reported that the suspects allegedly threatened supermarket employees with cane knives and made their escape with stolen items and cash, fleeing in a taxi that was later found in Tacirua Heights about an hour after the crime.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about crime in the area, but it also showcases the efficiency of the police force in swiftly locating the getaway vehicle. As the judicial process unfolds, it offers a reminder of the importance of community safety and the rule of law. The engagement of private counsel by the accused suggests that they are taking the legal proceedings seriously and that due process will be respected.
