The Nasinu Magistrates Court has taken significant action against two individuals accused of robbing the Alison Supermarket in Laucala Beach on Monday. The defendants, 51-year-old Sosiveta Raura and 43-year-old Leone Lesumailepanoni, face four counts of robbery each and appeared before Resident-Magistrate Charles Ratakele.
Magistrate Ratakele has referred the case to the High Court in Suva, adding a procedural layer to the judicial process. Both Raura and Lesumailepanoni were apprehended shortly after the incident, during which they reportedly threatened supermarket staff with cane knives before fleeing the scene with stolen goods and cash in a taxi. This taxi was found in Tacirua Heights approximately one hour later.
During their court appearance, the defendants acknowledged the charges, and the first phase of disclosures was provided to them. They indicated their intention to retain private legal counsel as they prepare for the upcoming proceedings, scheduled for next Thursday. It is noteworthy that a third suspect connected to the robbery has been questioned but subsequently released by the police.
