The Nasinu Magistrates Court has ordered the remand of two individuals, Sosiveta Raura, 51, and Leone Lesumailepanoni, 43, at the Suva Remand Centre after they were accused of robbing the Alison Supermarket in Laucala Beach on Monday. Each is facing four counts of robbery and appeared before Resident Magistrate Charles Ratakele.
During the proceedings, the charges were formally presented and acknowledged by the accused, while the first phase of disclosures was provided to them. Both individuals expressed their intention to engage private legal representation. The case has been referred to the High Court in Suva and is scheduled for a continuation next Thursday.
Additionally, a third suspect involved in the incident has been questioned by the police but was subsequently released. The police reported that the suspects allegedly threatened supermarket employees using cane knives before escaping with stolen goods and cash in a taxi. This taxi was recovered in Tacirua Heights approximately an hour after the robbery.
This situation highlights the ongoing challenges related to crime in the community but also underscores the efficiency of law enforcement in apprehending suspects quickly. As the case progresses through the legal system, it will be crucial to see how justice is served, offering a sense of reassurance to the affected community.
