A 21-year-old student nurse from Labasa has recently been released on bail after facing charges for providing false information to law enforcement. This situation arose after she reported to the police that she had been assaulted and robbed by two unknown i-Taukei men last Saturday while heading to her job at Labasa Hospital.
As part of the investigation, police examined CCTV footage that contradicted her version of events. The footage showed her entering a taxi shortly after she arrived at the Labasa Bus Stand, and she was later taken to her boyfriend’s home in Line Point, Batinikama, rather than being attacked as she initially claimed. Moreover, the items she reported missing were found at her boyfriend’s residence, leading to the revelation that he, a 25-year-old man, had allegedly assaulted her instead.
Consequently, charges have been filed against both the student nurse for giving false information and against her boyfriend for assault causing actual bodily harm. Both individuals are set to appear in court on March 12.
