A high pressure system well to the southeast of Fiji is producing a fresh to strong southeasterly wind flow across the islands, with a strong wind warning in force for a number of northern and eastern island groups and some coastal areas. Expect rough seas in exposed waters, cloudy periods with showers in several districts, and generally fine weather elsewhere with isolated afternoon or evening showers. Afternoon thunderstorms remain possible over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
Strong southeasterly winds are likely across much of the group, with wind gusts up to about 45 km/h expected over the land areas of Yasawa, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and coastal areas around Rakiraki and Udu Point. These stronger winds should ease to moderate to fresh from tomorrow. With rough seas reported, small craft and swimmers should take care and coastal communities should secure loose outdoor items.
Cloudy periods with some showers are expected today across Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni and nearby islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Outside these areas the weather will be generally fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, so localized downpours and brief heavy rain may occur with those storms.
For main centres: Navua, Suva and Nausori will see cloudy periods with some showers with overnight lows near 24°C and daytime highs around 31°C (outlook for Tuesday: 24–32°C with possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms). Sigatoka and the Coral Coast should remain mostly fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers, with temperatures about 24–31°C today and up to 25–32°C on Tuesday. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba are expected to be mainly fine apart from isolated showers and possible thunderstorms, with temperatures around 24–32°C (rising to 25–32°C on Tuesday).
Across the north and outer islands: Tavua and Rakiraki will experience the stronger southeasterly winds (up to 45 km/h at times) but otherwise mostly fine weather apart from isolated showers, with temperatures near 24–31°C. Yasawa and the Mamanucas should be mainly fine, around 24–32°C. Labasa, Savusavu and Nabouwalu can expect mainly fine conditions apart from isolated showers and possible thunderstorms, with Labasa a little warmer up to 33°C at times. Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu are also under the strong wind influence with cloudy periods and some showers (24–31°C today, easing to moderate winds and 22–32°C on Tuesday). Rotuma is affected by a trough of low pressure with occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms, moderate easterly winds and moderate seas (about 24–31°C today, with showers and thunderstorms continuing into Tuesday at around 25–30°C).
