Strike Action at USP: What Comes Next?

The University has announced that all staff members have returned to their duties following a four-day strike, effective as of yesterday.

In a joint statement issued by the Association of the University of the South Pacific Staff (AUSPS) and the University of the South Pacific Staff Union (USPSU) on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, it was communicated that striking staff members were requested to resume work starting Thursday, October 24, 2024.

Despite the return to work, the unions have indicated they will continue to monitor the situation surrounding their demands for a fair and transparent investigation into Vice Chancellor and President Professor Pal Ahluwalia.

Furthermore, the unions noted that they are prepared to initiate strike action again on short notice if necessary. Their strike mandate is set to remain in effect until February 14, 2025.
