A call has been issued for the Government and child protection services in Fiji to enhance child protection laws. Anare Tawake, who served as the chief guest at the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect Day and World Children’s Day celebration in Nasova last week, emphasized the importance of child protection laws in fostering a more coordinated and proactive response to instances of child abuse within communities.
Mr. Tawake highlighted how legislation related to children’s rights and educational entitlements could pave the way for improved child protection measures in the country. He noted that collaboration among law enforcement, child protection professionals, and non-governmental organizations has facilitated swift responses to cases of child abuse.
He also underscored the significance of technology in child protection efforts, stating it serves as an essential tool for safeguarding children. The advancements in international cooperation aimed at monitoring and preventing online exploitation have empowered authorities to assist children in unprecedented ways.
Mr. Tawake encouraged everyone—children, parents, colleagues, and friends—to become passionate and resilient advocates for child protection, urging them to actively combat child abuse.
In summary, there is a growing recognition in Fiji of the need to strengthen laws and collaboration concerning child protection, acknowledging both the role of technology and community involvement in safeguarding children. This movement towards enhanced protections for children reflects a hopeful advancement for the welfare of future generations.
